Recently unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed by Ford, the newest version of the new all-electric Mach-E has been released for orders within the UK. Being out for nearly a year the only all-electric Ford (Mustang Mach-E) has been receiving a plethora of awards and top reviews from some of the motor industries biggest pundits. These positive views on the Mach-E makes the GT version even more elusive and an exciting prospect, as the new GT version is pitted in the same category as the Tesla Model Y, Jaguar I-Pace and Polestar 2. Tesla have already made their fleet of vehicles a name say in the UK and Ford are making inroads into being a common site on UK roads with the Mach-E, with the hope the new GT version will promote further sales in the UK market.

Getting down to the technical side of the All-New Ford Mach-E GT makes it seem to appear of rekindled some of the Mustang pedigree of power and looks compared to what could be seen in the Mach-E being as ‘tamed’ Mustang. Powered by two electric motors to all four wheels, this beast produces 480bhp making it the fastest accelerating four/five-seater Ford car ever sold in Europe, posting a 0-62mph time of only 3.7 seconds (from a rolling start of 5mph). That astonishing acceleration makes it faster than the current competitors in this market the Jaguar I-Pace and Polestar 2, but ever so slightly slower than the main market competitor the Tesla Model Y.

The two electric motors that power the GT are 2 x 88kWh batteries providing the GT with a range of 310 miles (dependant on driving conditions). The range of 310 miles is slightly below what can be delivered in the regular Mach-E, but provides over 138 more BHP making it a real GT version of an already viable car. Charging the GT is an area that Ford are proud to boast that supports 150kW charging which means a recharge from 10-80% will only take 45 minutes when connected to a DC rapid charger. Ford also claim that only 10 minutes of charging can provide 60 miles of range (dependant on driving conditions) which is perfect for short trips or whilst you grab a coffee.

With the extra power comes a higher top speed than the standard version, boasting a capable 124mph which is more than the actual Mustang GT (petrol) with its 5-litre V8. However, the 124mph is 31mph behind the Tesla Model Y even though the dimensions of the GT have been adapted for optimal speed with a lower ride height and car height in general. The most notable of ‘style’ changes is instead of the Mustang badge on the back it is replaced with a silver coloured ‘GT’ badge that really strikes the eye. Apart from a badge there aren’t many other styling differences between the GT and the standard Mach-E but you do get 20-inch alloy wheels specifically designed by Pirelli which can handle the increased torque of 860Nm and help deliver rear-biased power for a more ‘entertaining’ drive. The GT is also available in exclusive colours: Cyber Orange and Grabber Blue which also allows for body-coloured wheel arches which have been historically black/grey on modern cars.

The ride of the GT is improved though with MagneRide adaptive suspension system which Ford claims to have been specifically tuned for European roads, plus high-performance Brembo brakes and wider/bigger wheels as detailed above. Partner all of this with interior features such as a 15.5-inch touchscreen display, sports seats, Bose stereo and an optional panoramic roof, this GT should be a dream to ride in but also be able to enjoy the Mustang breed on roads. The standard driving modes in the Mach-E are available but with an added mode of Untamed+ which is intended for track use, it dynamically adjusts traction and stability control for an even greater driving experience.

Ford’s Vehicle Dynamics manager has said “the Mustang Mach-E GT demonstrates the true potential for all-electric powertrains to dial up the fun-to-drive experience. This is a refined, premium specification five-seater SUV with the acceleration of a super-car and zero tailpipe emissions – a combination that was the stuff of dreams 30 years ago.” It is clear to see that Ford are proud to brand this as a true Mustang and with a lack of competition within the SUV-electric market the Mach-E and GT version are going to become real staples for Ford. The Mach-E car line in general was “a massive step on our journey to offering only zero-emissions capable, all-electric or plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles by mid-2026” as said by Ford’s Imports General Manager, which seems to put Ford on target with their emission goal and ahead of other competitors who are slower out the blocks to start production of electric based vehicles.

All of the above makes for a fantastic prospect on paper and current reviews from experts show this to be a real game changer for Ford who have stuck with the Mustang brand for years. Orders have already began to be taken in the UK and across Europe but only a limited amount of stock is available for 2021, meaning getting your order in soon is imperative.
